Task Reports

FOBWO has a wide and all encompassing remit. Although the trees are planted and maintained by contractors, as also the pathways are cut, everything else falls to the Friends to do. This can range from Habitat surveying, repair jobs, be it trees or fencing, to bridge and stile construction and the maintenance of Adopt an Area, and occasionally digging out the odd car (photo).

In 1999 the Friends started the ambitious  restoration project of Perches’ and Sammy Roy’s ponds. This was felt to be important to increase the range of habitats on the site. (See related pond story)

 On - going Projects

The three main on-site projects are the restoration of the ponds and the maintenance and expansion of “Adopt an Area” and the "Adopt a Tree" scheme. Although increasing the awareness among the general public of the importance of conservation and the value of the wood is an ongoing task

Other projects planned for the longer term include improvements to the infrastructure of the site and better parking facilities for visitors, along with more benches, litter and dog bins, the introduction of bat boxes.

The ponds project is progressing well and further developments are planned which will greatly improve the habitat value of the ponds.

If you have any suggestions and idea for future projects please contact us.
